Eduardo Baptista sacked by Fluminense

Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fluminense have sacked manager Eduardo Baptista as manager.

The decision was taken by the club' s board of directors following the club' s 2-0 defeat to city rivals Botafogo last night (Wednesday).

Former coach Cuca, who steered the club to first division safety in 2009, as well as Paulo Autuori, have already been linked with the vacancy at the Laranjeiras outfit.

According to Cuca's agent, Eduardo Uram, the manager only wants to return to work in April or May, closer to the start of the Brazilian league championship campign.

Baptista had been in charge of Fluminense since September 2015, but never managed to mark a significant upturn in the team' s results.

During last night's defeat, a bottle of water was thrown from the stands in the direction of the beleaguered boss.

The 43-year-old took charge of 26 games, winning just eight, drawing five and losing 13. Endit
