Xinhua, February 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian man was injured by Israeli gunfire Wednesday, after an Israeli man was allegedly stabbed near the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) health ministry said in a press statement that the Palestinian military liaison informed the ministry that a man was shot and injured near the Gush Etzion settlement bloc, south of Bethlehem.

The man was not immediately identified, said the statement.

The Israeli media reported that an Israeli man was injured after being stabbed by a Palestinian. It added that another Israeli who was present at the scene opened fire towards the assailant, wounding him moderately.

The stabbed Israeli man was also injured by the friendly gunfire and later succumbed to his wounds from stray bullet.

The Israeli army said it arrested 18 Palestinians Tuesday night, from different West Bank cities, most of whom are affiliated to the Islamic Hamas movement.

Three of the arrested were accused of taking part in "terrorist activity," while the rest were accused of belonging to "terrorist organizations."

A recent wave of tension broke out between Palestinians and Israel last October, killing over 180 Palestinians and 30 Israelis. Endit
