Bus arson suspect in N.W China sent to procuratorate

Xinhua, February 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ma Yongping, who is alleged to have set a bus on fire in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is now in the custody of the procuratorate, local authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Police finished their investigation on Monday, according to the People's Procuratorate of Yinchuan, Ningxia's capital. The procuratorate will lead the prosecution against Ma.

The bus fire, which quickly turned the bus "into skeleton" on the morning of Jan. 5, resulted in 18 deaths and 32 people sustaining injuries.

Police said Ma had been in a financial dispute with a construction contractor and wanted to draw attention to his plight by setting the bus on fire. Endi
