Commercial flights between Kazakhstan, Egypt to resume in March

Xinhua, February 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Commercial flights between Kazakhstan and Egypt will resume in March, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Investment and Development said on its official website on Wednesday.

Kazakhstan's SCAT airline plans to resume its commercial flights between the southern Kazakh city of Almaty and the Egyptian tourist city of Sharm el-Shaykh, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Fly Egypt also plans to launch regular flights between the two countries in March, starting with two flights a week.

Commercial flights between the two countries were halted in November last year on security concerns after a Russian plane from Sharm el-Shaykh to the Russian city of St. Petersburg crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula in October 2015 in a terrorist attack that killed all 224 people onboard.

Kazakhstan agreed to resume commercial flights between the two countries following a recent joint inspection of the airports of Cairo and Sharm el-Shaykh by authorities on both sides. Endi
