China to eliminate outdated coal production capacity by 60 mln tonnes in 2016

China will close more than 1,000 outdated coal mines with a combined coal production capacity of 60 million tonnes this year, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said on Monday.

The NEA also called for consolidation through mergers.

China will work to digest an excess capacity of coal-fired electricity, by controlling new projects, according to the NEA.

The administration also called for better transportation of hydropower, wind power and solar power to avoid waste. Endi
