German automaker Audi AG reported on Wednesday that around 143,150 vehicles were delivered in January, a year-on-year increase of 4.0 percent.

Demand for Audi models was especially positive in Europe, with sales increasing by 6.5 percent to around 59,900 cars, according to a statement of the Ingolstadt-based company.

On the Chinese market, Audi reported a successful start into the new year. 54,402 cars were sold to Chinese customers in January, representing a year-on-year rise of 6.2 percent.

"We started the new year at a good pace and delivered more cars than ever before in a January," said Dietmar Voggenreiter, member of the board of management for sales and marketing.

"We have gained new customers in the Americas, Europe and Asia. That shows how balanced our growth strategy is," Voggenreiter added. Endit
