French foreign minister to leave office

Xinhua, February 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Wednesday that he was going to leave office after serving four years in the position, a local daily reported.

The top French diplomat told reporters he was attending his last cabinet meeting earlier in the day, Le Figaro said.

Fabius is expected to be nominated by President Francois Hollande as the president of the Constitutional Council -- the country's top constitutional authority, according to the newspaper.

Fabius' leave is expected to prompt a government reshuffle, which is likely to be announced by the end of this week.

Fabius, 69, is a veteran political figure of the French Socialist Party. He became France's youngest ever prime minister at the age of 37 in 1984 under President Francois Mitterand. Endi
