France prepares meeting to push stranded Middle East peace talks

France is preparing an international gathering on Israel-Palestine conflict in a bid to revive peace talks and push through the creation of two states, a government official said on Monday.

A a daily e-press briefing, Romain Nadal, foreign ministry's spokesman noted that French top diplomat Laurent Fabius has already had "extensive consultations" with France's allies and partners to organize a conference on the Middle East 's longest conflict.

"The aim is to revive a credible process to preserve the two-state solution," he added.

During New Year address to the diplomatic corps on Jan. 29, Fabius pledged "to engage in coming weeks in the preparation of an international conference bringing together the parties and their main partners, American, European, Arab".

He also warned that if its efforts failed, France would recognise a Palestinian State.

The last round of peace peace negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian authorities broke down in April 2014. Endit
