Palestine accuses Israel of "Judaizing" education in East Jerusalem

Xinhua, February 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Palestinian foreign ministry accused Israel on Monday of "Judaizaing" education in Jerusalem.

The ministry said in an emailed press statement that the Israeli institution is "implementing schemes aiming to suffocate the Palestinian cultural and educational life in Jerusalem," referring to the attempts of the Jerusalem municipality to change school text books and curricula in East Jerusalem schools, saying Palestinian curricula includes inciting content.

The ministry's statement said those "schemes aiming at manipulating the thoughts and awareness of Palestinian generations are a serious violation of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention that prohibits the occupying power from imposing changes to the educational and cultural life of the people under occupation."

The ministry called on all international organizations to exert pressure on the Israeli government to stop its "Judaization" of education in Jerusalem.

Palestinians demand that East Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa mosque compound, occupied in June, 1967 be named the capital of their future state, while Israel demands Jerusalem as its undivided capital.

The International community has not recognized Jerusalem as a capital for Israel since its establishment. Endit
