A new Holocaust Museum on the site of a former labour concentration camp for Jews was opened on Tuesday in Sered in western Slovakia.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said at the opening ceremony that it should serve as a symbolic wreath for all victims of the holocaust.

"We want to see this place visited by students to learn in a modern way about the horrors that took place here during WWII," expressed Fico.

Czech Premier Bohuslav Sobotka, who was also present at the ceremony, said that the Holocaust mustn't be forgotten, especially when certain tendencies to deny it have began to appear.

"So, museums like the one in Sered should educate people and remind people of the horrors of certain times, honouring their victims and heroes," added Sobotka.

During the ceremony Israeli Knesset Vice-President Yitzhak Vaknin thanked Slovakia's government for supporting the setting up of the Sered museum, stating that it's important at a time of resurgent anti-Semitism. Endit
