The first group of ten Christian refugees from Iraq arrived in Prague on Sunday afternoon, said Vojtech Jurasek, spokesman for the Generace 21 Endowment that participates in their resettlement.

Half of these refugees are children, and they come from the Mosul vicinity of Iraq that has been occupied by the Islamic State, from which they fled. They went from the camps in Iraq's Irbil to Lebanon. Adoption of them were approved in mid-December 2015.

These refugees were transported to the Okrouhlik recreation center in Jihlava, where they will stay for several months. Another group of about 20 refugees are expected to arrive in the next two to three weeks.

The refugees will be looked after by social workers and they will learn Czech language. Around the second half of this year, when they gained asylum in the Czech Republic, they will then be able to move within the Czech Republic to look for jobs.

In total, the Czech Republic plans to receive 153 fleeing Christians from Iraq. Endit
