Explosions in northern Syria kill 3

Xinhua, January 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed on Sunday when twin bombings rocked the predominantly Kurdish city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria, activists and state media said.

The first blast rocked central Qamishili, while the second was caused by a bomb placed in a motorbike which was detonated in the al-Wasati neighborhood in the city.

Activists citing reports from the Islamic State (IS) group said an IS fighter detonated himself at a restaurant in al-Wasati.

The city has been subject to several explosions by the IS group, as the Russian air force has reportedly been evaluating the airport of the city for military use.

Russia is already using Hmaimim airbase in the country's coastal province of Latakia, amid new reports that Russia is approaching the Kurds in Qamishli and will use the airport which is under the Syrian government control. Endit
