30 pilgrims injured in road mishap in S. India

Xinhua, January 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 30 people were injured in a road mishap in the southern Indian state of Kerala Monday, a senior police official said.

"The mishap happened when a bus in which the victims were travelling turned turtle on national highway-7 near Kakancherry in the state's Malappuram district," he said, on condition of anonymity.

Eye-witnesses told the police that the incident happened around 9 a.m. local time after the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while negotiating a curve, the official said.

All those injured were pilgrims coming from the neighboring state of Karnataka and they have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of four are said to be serious, he said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added. Endit
