Singapore stocks close 1.44 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 37.76 points, or 1.44 percent, to close at 2,593.00.

A total of 1.45 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.18 billion Singapore dollars (825.8 million U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 351 to 95, while 481 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 13.81 points, or 0.52 percent, to close at 2,630.76 on Jan. 15. Endit
