Vietnam's national party congress to elect 200 central committee members: official

The upcoming 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) will elect 200 members of the central committee, a Vietnamese official said on Monday.
The remarks were made by Mai Van Chinh, deputy chairman of the CPV's Central Organizing Committee at a press conference held in here to introduce the 12th national party congress.
The 200 members will include 180 officials and 20 alternate ones.
As many as 1,510 delegates representing over 4.5 million Vietnamese communist party members will attend the 12th national party congress, which is scheduled to be held from Jan. 20 to Jan. 28 in Hanoi.
According to Chinh, 12.85 percent of the 1,510 representatives are female, while those of minority ethnic groups account for 11.52 percent.
Two among the representatives are under 30 years old, while two others are over 70.
The event will be held under the theme of establishing a transparent and powerful party, fostering national unity, simultaneously and comprehensively boosting reform, resolutely defending the nation and maintaining peace and stability, while striving to turn Vietnam into a modern industrialized country, said Dinh The Huynh, a member of the political bureau.
Some 650 reporters of domestic media and over 100 others from foreign press have registered to cover the event, said Huynh. Enditem
