Bremen sign Greek midfielder Athanasios Petsos

Werder Bremen reinforce their midfield this summer as Athanasios 'Thanos' Petsos will join from Austrian outfit Rapid Wien, both sides confirmed on Monday.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder penned a three-year deal, stipulated until June 2019, with the "Green-Whites".

"We have scouted Thanos for a long time and had now the chance to sign him. He is experienced but he still can evolve. He fits perfectly to our squad we are therefore very pleased that we were able to convince him of Bremen," sporting director Thomas Eichin said.

The German-born Greece international played already for Bayer Leverkusen, Kaiserslautern and Greuther Fuerth. He scored overall one goal in 54 Bundesliga appearances. In addition, he made five international caps for Greece's senior team.

Relegation threatened Werder Bremen visit Schalke to close the 18th round in Bundesliga on January 24. Endit
