German car market booms in 2015

Xinhua, January 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Car market in Germany remained prosperous in 2015 with a sharp increase of new vehicle registrations, data showed on Wednesday.

New car registrations increased by 8 percent year on year in December 2015 to 247,300 units, said German automakers' association VDA. Throughout last year, over 3.2 million new cars were registered in Germany, 6 percent more than in 2014.

"It shows the current dynamics of the German car market," said VDA president Matthias Wissmann.

In 2015, 5.7 million cars were produced in Germany, according to the association, marking an increase of more than 2 percent from the previous year. Export also rose by 3 percent to 4.4 million cars.

In December, however, production and export declined by 1 percent and 4 percent respectively.

"The competition in the international market is getting tougher," warned Wissmann. "The volatility is increasing, we are preparing for it." Endit
