Israel charges two Jewish extremists over murder of 3 Palestinians

Xinhua, January 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Israeli court charged two Jewish extremists on Sunday over alleged involvement in murder of three Palestinians in the Palestinian village of Duma in July, the Walla! News website reported.

The main defendant is Amiram Ben Uliel, 21, from Jerusalem, and another defendant is a minor whose details are not cleared for publication.

In the attack on July 31, three members of a Dawabsheh family, including a 18-month-old baby Ali, were killed.

According to the indictment sent by the Court Authority spokesperson, the two "wished to cause unrest among the Palestinians and trigger violent attacks in order to deter policy makers from evacuating Jewish settlements, as well as avenge the murder of a settler a month beforehand by Palestinian attackers."

Two other defendants were charged for various acts of vandalism against Palestinians, according to a statement by the court.

An Israeli police commander in the West Bank said the indictments follow a "highly complex investigation."

"The interrogation culminated with the serious indictments against those who carried out the murders in this horrific affair and other nationalistic attacks," Judea and Samaria (Hebrew biblical name for the West Bank) police commander, major-general Shlomi Michael, said in a statement on Sunday.
