Xinhua, December 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), has held talks with the government's chief peace negotiator U Aung Min on the country's peace process, sources with the NLD said Thursday.

U Aung Min, minister at the President's Office, is also vice chairman of the government's Union Peace Making Work Committee (UPWC).

They discussed ongoing peace process issues including the planned holding of the Union Peace Conference led by President U Thein Sein.

The conference is due to convene on Jan. 12-23 in Nay Pyi Taw, involving 700 representatives from the government, parliament, military and ethnic armed groups who signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA), as well as political parties and other players.

Secretaries of the stakeholder groups for the Union Peace Conference are set to meet on Jan. 5 to coordinate topics at the conference.

Myanmar government and eight out of 15 armed groups signed the NCA on Oct. 15 and the national-level first round of formal dialogue will take place on Jan. 15, 2016 in accordance with the timeline of the term of NCA.

A tripartite Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) approved the draft framework on Dec. 15. Enditem
