AU to deploy election observation mission in Central African Republic

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, has approved the deployment of the AU short-term observation (STO) mission to the general elections scheduled for Dec. 27 in Central African Republic (CAR).

The STOs mission, which is to be deployed following an official invitation of the government, will arrive in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR) on Dec. 20 and will remain in the country until Dec. 30, according to an AU statement on Friday.

The African Union Electoral Observation Mission (AUEOM) will be led by Souleymane Ndene Ndiaye, former Prime Minister of Senegal, said the statement.

The mission comprises 30 short term observers (STOs) from the Pan African Parliament, the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) of the African Union, election management bodies, civil society organizations, think tanks, media and academic institutions.

The observes will be deployed throughout the electoral constituencies of the country to monitor the electoral process and to consult with key stakeholders involved in the electoral process, said the statement. Endit
