One of the country's main mobile telecommunication company, MTN Cameroon, has launched the 4G mobile network which the company says would help boost Cameroon's economy, chief marketing officer of MTN Cameroon Linda Kouam said on Friday.
"The 4G of MTN Cameroon is an evolution. Cameroon's economic growth will change and will strongly improve access to education for millions of young people," she said in a brief statement.
She, however, added that the network has been rolled out in capital Yaounde and the economic capital Douala, Bafoussam in the West Region, Bamenda in the North-West Region, and Buea in the South-West Region, and other major towns of the country will follow.
MTN has developed in Cameroon a reliable world-class network, which is as of June 30, 2015 made up of more than 1,700 base stations and five ultra-modern technical centres. It is an extensive and robust network which covers close to 93 percent of the population of Cameroon.
It is without doubt that it is the most important telecommunications network in Cameroon and the Central African sub-region. It has rapidly positioned itself as the leader in the telecommunication sector with close to 10.4 million subscribers as of June 30, 2015. Endit
