Eurozone goods trade surplus grows in October

The first estimate of eurozone's trade surplus increased in October, according to data released on Wednesday by Eurostat, the European Union's (EU) statistical office.

The surplus in goods trade was 24.1 billion euros (26.38 billion U.S. dollars) in October, compared with 22.4 billion euros surplus during the corresponding month in 2014, the figures showed.

Intra-eurozone trade rose to 150.1 billion euros in October, up by 1 percent compared with October of last year, Eurostat said.

For the months from January to October, the euro area recorded a surplus of 199.7 billion euros, compared with 140.5 billion euros during the same months in 2014.

However, in the 28-member bloc EU, the extra-EU28 exports of goods was 154.0 billion euros, down by 2 percent compared with October 2014, while imports from the rest of the world stood at 150.8 billion euros, nearly unchanged, according to Eurostat.

As a result, the EU recorded a 3.2 billion euros surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in October 2015, falling significantly compared with 6.0 billion euros surplus in the same month of last year. Endit
