Jordan on Wednesday called on Israel to refrain from facilitating raids by radical settlers into Al Aqsa Mosque and its yards, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan, which oversees holy Islamic and Christian sites in East Jerusalem, voiced its rejection of Israel's support to facilitating and providing a cover and protection for those who storm Al Aqsa Mosque.
"These Israeli measures represent a stark violation and provocation of the feelings of Muslims," Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Wednesday.
He added that the Israeli police allows radical Jewish settlers to storm Al Aqsa Mosque, which is a serious escalation.
The minister added that the continued Israeli violations will worsen the situation and fuel violence.
He added that Jordan will stand firm in the face of these Israeli measures and will continue its role in defending the holy sites in Jerusalem.
Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, is the second Arab country to have peace with Israel after Egypt. Endit
