China's largest Siberian tiger breeding center, Heilongjiang Siberian Tiger Park, said on Thursday that a total of 110 tiger cubs were born this year.
Heilongjiang Siberian Tiger Park, where about 1,000 Siberian tigers live, handpicks certain tigers to breed the next generation every year.
"We have conducted birth control for the tigers during the past 10 years, and try to maintain about 1,000 tigers in the park," said Liu Dan, chief engineer of the park. "It's good for the balance of the core species group."
They select the tigers using a DNA database containing information on all of the tigers in the park, according to Liu.
Siberian tigers are among the world's most endangered species. They mostly live in northeast China and eastern Russia. The Heilongjiang Siberian Tiger Park was established in 1986 for the better protection of the species. Endi
