2.4 million Filipinos unemployed

The Philippine unemployment rate fell to 5.6 percent or equivalent to about 2.4 million Filipinos in October, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Thursday.

Unemployment rate in October last year stood at 6 percent.

"Among the unemployed persons in October 2015, 63.4 percent were male. Of the total unemployed, the age group 15 to 24 years comprised 48 percent, while the age group 25 to 34, 32.1 percent," the PSA said.

By educational attainment, the agency said 22.6 percent of the unemployed were college graduates, and 33.3 percent were high school graduates.

Underemployment rate dropped to 17.7 percent in October from 18.7 percent a year ago.

Also considered as underemployed are those employed persons who expressed the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job, to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours. Endit
