6 soldiers killed in Afghanistan within day

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least six Afghan soldiers have been killed in separate incidents within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Thursday morning.

"A total of six Afghan National Army personnel were martyred during military operations and separate attacks across Afghanistan within the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan security forces' casualties have risen recently as they have assumed the full security charges from NATO and U.S. forces since January this year.

The statement also said that several insurgents were killed and injured and one suspected militant was detained during cleanup operations over the same period.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the Central Asian country. Enditem
