NATO chief marks UN Anti-Corruption Day

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Marking the United Nations Anti-Corruption Day, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday said NATO is playing its part to strengthen good governance and reduce the risk of corruption in the defence and security sectors.

"We have to have a long-term perspective and understand the importance of reform, building institutions and fighting corruption," said Stoltenberg.

NATO established the Building Integrity program in 2007 with the aim to strengthen transparency and accountability, which now gathers 31 NATO and partner countries, it said in a press release.

The program supports nations in building effective and efficient defence institutions and promotes good working practices.

It is supported by voluntary contributions to a Trust Fund led by Belgium, Bulgaria, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 9 December as International Anti-Corruption Day. Endit
