NATO naval forces interact with Israeli counterparts

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two NATO ships assigned to Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO (SNMG2) have arrived in the Israeli city of Haifa for a port visit, the security organization said Wednesday.

The visit is in the framework of the NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) partnership, which Israel joined in 1995. Since then, NATO and Israel has cooperated in many areas, including search and rescue, humanitarian relief, border security, counter-terrorism and emergency planning.

The crew of the two NATO ships, flagship FGS Hamburg and HDMS Absalon, will have opportunities to interact with their Israeli counterparts. They also planed to participate in a exercise to enhance interoperability, according to NATO.

SNMG2 was fully engaged in the preceding months supporting NATO's counter-terrorism Operation Active Endeavour in Mediterranean. Endit
