Namibian boxer Paulus Ambunda successfully defended his International Boxing Organization World Super Bantamweight title against the Australian Jason Cooper Saturday in Namibia's capital Windhoek.
Ambunda whose ring name is The Rock held onto the title on points in a 12-round bout that saw him scoring 120-108, 115-113 and 117-111 against Cooper whose ring name is Nugget.
This win makes Ambunda a second-time champion after beating up the Argentinian Leandro Esperante in August this year.
Addressing the media after his win, Ambunda said he had given Namibia an early Christmas gift as per his promise before the bout.
"I delivered a loss to Cooper who came with the aim of upsetting us. Fighting him tonight was not as tough as I imagined it would be, I realized Cooper is still young in this game of boxing and has a lot to learn," Ambunda boasted.
He also said that he was ready to fight anyone in the category and to "unify the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Federation titles.
"I want to be a legend in boxing," he said.
Six Malawian boxers - Moses Mahilasi, Tinkani Kamanga, Robert Kachiza, Alic Gogoda, Chikondi Makawa and Wilson Masamba - lost their fights to Namibian boxers.
Mahilasi lost in the middleweight bout to Paulus, while Kamanga handed over the belt in the bantamweight category to Johannes.
Kachiza lost to Abmerk Shidjuu in the junior bantamweight and Makawa was beaten by Walter Kautondokwa in a middleweight bout.
The Namibian Jeremiah Nakathila kicked out Masamba in a junior lightweight bout, with Tanzanian Nasibu Ramadhani surrendering the WBO bantamweight title to Immanuel Naindjala. Endi
