Iran's police defuse bomb near Pakistan border

Xinhua, December 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iranian police defused a weighty bomb in a Sunni-populated province near the border with Pakistan on Sunday, a senior police official said.

The 21-kg bomb was found on Iranshahr-Sarbaz road in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan following reports by residents. A group of military force successfully defused the bomb.

Iran's police commander did not elaborate on the identity of the culprits.

Iran has been beefing up security measures in the capital Tehran and other parts of the country during the Shiite Muslim ritual of Arba'een.

Arba'een is the 40th day after the death of Imam Hussein, Prophet Muhammad's grandson and the third holy figure for the Shiite Muslim sect. He was killed in the battle of Karbala in 680 A.D. and buried in Iraq. Endit
