1st LD Writethru: India, Pakistan hold national security advisor-level talks in Bangkok

Xinhua, December 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

India and Pakistan Sunday held national security advisor-level talks in Thailand's capital Bangkok, nearly four months after New Delhi called off the same.

Immediately after the meeting between India's Ajit Doval and Pakistan's Naseer Khan Janjua, both issued a joint statement, saying it took place in a "candid, cordial and constructive atmosphere."

"Discussions covered peace and security, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, and others, including tranquility over the Line of Control," said the statement, tweeted by the External Affairs Ministry.

Sources said the decision to resume the talks was taken when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Paris recently.

Both prime ministers were in Paris to attend the United Nations climate change summit and their photo of holding a 20-minute meeting hogged media limelight.

India had some months back called off the national security advisor-level talks and the official reason behind it was disagreement of the two sides on the agenda of the meeting. Enditem
