UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here Thursday that "member states are very closely coordinating" to hold a new round of Syria international talks in New York, and that "I am looking forward to that."

Farhan Haq, the deputy UN spokesman, told Xinhua that "that is his expectation. It is not an official announcement. You have to ask the United States. We cannot officially confirm it, just yet." (UN-Syria)

COPENHAGEN -- Danish voters rejected a government proposal to replace the nation's current opt-out of the EU's Justice and Home Affairs rules with an opt-in model in a referendum on Thursday.

With all votes counted, 53.1 percent Danish voters said "no" to the proposal while 46.9 percent are in favor. The turnout rate was 72 percent.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. defense chief Ash Carter said on Thursday the U.S. military would open all combat jobs to women.

"I'm announcing muy decision not to make continued exceptions, that is, to proceed with opening all these remaining occupations and positions to women. There will be no exceptions," said Carter here at a press conference. (US-Pentagon-Women)

LOS ANGELES -- The two suspects in Wednesday's mass shooting at San Bernardino City of Southern California were heavily armed, police said on Thursday.

Fourteen people were killed in the tragic incident on Wednesday and the number of people injured rose to 21, including two police officers, said Jarrod Burguan, San Bernardino Police Chief, at a press conference Thursday morning. (US-CA-Shooting) Endi
