Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo run for FIFA Ballon d'Or

Xinhua, December 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Neymar were nominated on the three-man shortlist for this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or Award on Monday, along with the reigning title holder Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, the 30-year-old Portugal international, has claimed the award symbolizing the world's annual best player in the past two years after Messi kept a four-year winning streak.

Neymar, the 23-year-old Brazilian striker, made the shortlist for the first time after he achieved a treble triumph (the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Cup) with Messi at Barcelona last season.

Meanwhile, World Cup winning captain Carli Lloyd from the United States, Japan's Aya Miyama and Germany's Celia Sasic are in the running for the women's award.

All of the nominees are confirmed after a voting process, which was open to the captains and head coaches of the men's and women's national teams of the 207 member associations as well as international media representatives selected by FIFA and France Football.

The award ceremony will be held at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on January 11, 2016. Endi
