China's official Xinhua News Agency and The India Today Group expressed willingness to deepen cooperation ahead of the first BRICS Media Summit that will open Tuesday.

Xinhua Editor-in-chief He Ping met with Aroon Purie, chairman and editor-in-chief of The India Today Group on Monday. He said the establishment of an efficient dialogue mechanism for BRICS media will help cement friendship and advance understanding.

Pragmatic media cooperation will also give BRICS countries a bigger say in the international community and make the world opinion market a more fair one, said He.

"The India Today Group and Xinhua are both influential media organizations. I hope we can share ideas of development and experience of dealing with challenges," he said.

Purie said the BRICS Media Summit will serve as an important platform for media of the five countries to explore cooperation.

The India Today Group is ready to cooperate with Xinhua to better report stories in the world's second largest economy, said Purie.

The first BRICS media summit, initiated and hosted by Xinhua News Agency, draws more than 100 attendants from major media organizations of BRICS countries. Endi
