Chinese pay television signs contract with top Uganda Premier League side

Xinhua, November 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

StarTimes Limited, a Chinese Pay TV, has signed a five-year contract with Uganda's most decorated Premier league side Sports Club Villa.

The deal was signed by StarTimes marketing director Aldrine Nsubuga and SC Villa president Emmanuel Misagga in the capital Kampala late on Wednesday.

"Effective today StarTimes will be sponsoring SC Villa to a tune of 376,812 U.S. dollars for the next five years," said Nsubuga in front of over 500 SC Villa fans who attended the ceremony.

He said the contract will see StarTimes promote SC Villa matches, provide replica jerseys to fans for all home games, jointly activate fans branches across the country, motivate the players with prizes for outstanding performance and also promote the club brand.

The club president welcomed StarTimes for coming on board to sponsor a big club like SC Villa.

"We shall not disappoint you," added Misagga whose club will represent Uganda in the Confederation of African Football Confederations Cup next year.

Last year StarTimes also signed a deal with another Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC.

Nsubuga said they will soon be announcing the launch of the StarTimes football Academy with former Nigerian international Nwanko Kanu as it's ambassador.

StarTimes is now showing across 24 countries and regions in Africa. Endi
