Thai PM to attend APEC meeting in Philippines

Xinhua, November 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend the 23rd Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders Meeting in the Philippines on Nov. 18 and 19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

Thailand will seek to promote four main issues at the meeting, including quality growth and structural reform, regional economic integration, capacity building and the fostering of micro, small and medium Enterprises, as well as sustainable and resilient community, the ministry said in a statement.

"Thailand supports the Collaborative Study of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), in which we believe that the FTAAP should build on existing free trade agreements, especially the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)," the statement said.

Moreover, Thailand supports the adoption of APEC Services Cooperation Framework (ASCF) which will help promote transparency, equality and inclusiveness in the service sector, it added.

Thailand attaches great importance to human capital development through the improvement of education system and food security, according to the ministry.

"As one of the world's largest food producers, Thailand stands ready to share its knowledge and expertise in the area of food production. Thailand would also like APEC to consider taking a nexus approach to food, water and energy security," it said. Endit
