Tokyo stocks edge down in early trading as investors secure gains

Tokyo stocks edged down in early trading Wednesday as investors opted to secure gains following the market's five-day winning streak.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 24.98 points, or 0.13 percent, from Tuesday to 19,646.28, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange edged down 1.26 points, or 0.08 percent, to 1,588.22.

Among notable early decliners were pulp and paper, nonferrous metals and rubber products-related issues. Enditem
