Czech offers 20 police to Slovenia to guard EU borders

Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec on Thursday said that the Czech Republic would send 20 police officers to Slovenia to help it cope with the migrant wave and guard the Schengen border.
He added he would present the proposal to the government on Monday.
Chovanec said the offer to Slovenia was based on a bilateral agreement between the two countries. He said it was far better to protect the Slovenian border than to build a fence between Slovenia and Austria.
Czech police officers are to stay in Slovenia at least until mid-December. But Chovanec said he believes that they should operate at the border between Croatia and Slovenia longer than until the end of the year.
Czech police officers would leave for Slovenia this week or next. Czech Chief-of-Staff Josef Becvar said Thursday that the Czech Republic might send several dozens of soldiers with equipment to Slovenia to help it cope with the migrant crisis. Endit
