Four people were killed in Monday's earthquake in northern India and Indian-controlled Kashmir, said officials Tuesday.

Three died in Srinagar, summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, while scores of people suffered injuries across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the 7.5 magnitude earthquake which hit Afghanistan.

Houses were also damaged in Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Anantnag and Shopian in Indian-controlled Kashmir, with reports of injuries to people.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday evening telephoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif and offered India's help.

"Heard about strong earthquake in Afghanistan-Pakistan region whose tremors have been felt in parts of India. I pray for everyone's safety," he tweeted. "We stand ready for assistance where required, including Afghanistan and Pakistan," said Modi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked people not to panic and said disaster management teams had been activated. Enditem
