Welcoming young representatives from 195 member states, the 9th UNESCO youth forum 2015 opened Monday at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

This year's edition bears the theme "Young global citizens for a sustainable planet," and will facilitate a "discussion of sustainable development challenges in the post-2015 context, and focus on climate change and related global debates around the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21)," said UNESCO.

Hao Ping, president of the 37th Session of General Conference of UNESCO, told the participants: "Young people are open-minded, sensitive to emerging trends, and you have the wisdom and courage to tackle the most complicated and significant challenges of humankind."

He called on the international community to make concerted efforts in providing various opportunities for young men and women, answering their rightful need for respect, development and decent jobs. Endit
