Xinhua, October 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

A car bomb exploded on Wednesday near the headquarter of Tripoli's outgoing General National Congress (parliament), security officials said.

The explosion took place while the parliament was in a session, discussing possible candidates for the upcoming national unity government.

No casualties or losses were reported, the officials said. No group claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Bernardino Leon, Head of UN Support Mission in Libya, said on Tuesday that a proposal of a new government of national unity could be announced on Wednesday evening.

Libya is suffering political crisis with two rival parliaments and governments battling for legitimacy. The country is struggling to make a democratic transition.

The North African country has been suffering a state of insecurity and chaos ever since the fall and death of its former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
