Hungarian PM proposes raising 3 bln euros for EU's refugee crisis

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday said he would propose that the European Union raise 3 billion euros (3.34 billion U.S. dollars) for handling the ongoing refugee crisis.

During an official visit to the southern German state of Bavaria, Orban suggested refugees and migrant workers be separated prior to their entry into the Schengen area.

"We have laws, a legal system and politicians and law enforcement agencies. It must be possible to stop the massive influx of the crowd. If there is no European legal system, then it threatens chaos," he said.

Orban said he will make various proposals during the upcoming EU summit in Brussels such as Greece securing its external borders, 3 billion euros being provided to deal with refugees and forming a special partnership with Turkey and Russia.

"We should establish a world quota and involve the whole world in order to cope with the people migration crisis," he added.

Orban's host, Minister-President of Bavaria Horst Seehofer described the refugee issue as one of the greatest challenges since the end of the Cold War.

According to him, it is therefore "a duty to talk with each other and seek appropriate solutions, for which Hungary is indispensable."

Seehofer again criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her decision to allow refugees, who were stuck at first in Hungary, to travel to Germany.

"After the chaotic conditions in Europe, we are in a rule-free state through a German decision, where we are just constantly improvise," Seehofer said. Endit
