Egypt to purchase two French Mistral warships initially built for Russia

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Egypt will purchase the two French Mistral warships initially built for Russia, the French presidential office the Elysee said Wednesday.

"Egypt agreed on the principle and the terms of the acquisition of the two Mistral-class amphibious assault ships," the Elysee said in a press release.

No details on the terms and price were revealed.

French President Francois Hollande last year decided to halt the delivery of the Mistral warships to Russia following the worsening security situation in Ukraine despite diplomatic efforts to end the crisis peacefully. Enditem
