Macao received around 3.03 million visitors in August, representing a 14.5 percent increase from July, but still witnessing a 3.8 percent year-on-year decline, data from the city's Statistics and Census Service showed on Wednesday.
According to the statistics agency, tourists from the Chinese mainland, accounting for over 60 percent of the total, dipped by 1. 7 percent in August on a yearly basis. The figures of Hong Kong and Taiwan visitors increased by 0.8 percent and 3.5 percent year- on-year, respectively.
While the average length of stay of visitors increased to 1.1 days, that of overnight visitors rose to 2.1 days.
In the first eight months of this year, visitor arrivals totaled 20.43 million, down by 3.2 percent year-on-year, with those from the mainland decreasing by 4.1 percent. The long-haul visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and Britain also dropped.
To fill in the gap of the tourists number, Macao has launched a series of promotion campaigns in neighboring regions, with diversifying activities to enhance tourist attractions. Travel packages and hotels with favorable price are rolled out as well to draw visitors to Macao. Endi
