Algeria, Niger and Chad urge Libya to establish national unity gov't

Foreign Ministers of Algeria, Niger and Chad Sunday urged Libya once more to convene and establish a national unity government.

Algeria hosted a meeting with Niger and Chad to discuss the Libyan crisis Sunday. The meeting was attended by the the Algerian Minister for Maghreb, African Union and Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, Niger's Foreign Minister, Aichatou Kane Boulama and Chad's Foreign Minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

It is "urgent" to reach a "political solution preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Libya and its peoples' cohesion through establishing a national unity government, one able to face, with the international community's help, rising challenges," read a joint statement issued by the three countries sharing borders with Libya.

Violent clashes opposed to IS linked militants took place between IS and local fighters for the control of the city of Sirte in northern Libya on August 16.

Algeria expressed concern that Libyan "chaos" would encumber the entire region with insecurity, urging Libyans to establish a national unity government. Endit
