Chinese vice president meets foreign guests

Xinhua, September 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao met with foreign dignitaries from Cuba, New Zealand and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Wednesday.

The three foreign dignitaries will join 30 world leaders and other representatives from governments and international organizations for China's 70th anniversary of the end of World War II commemorations on Thursday.

When meeting with Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Vice President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of Cuba, Li said China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and partners.

As this year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba, Li called on both sides to inherit the traditional friendship between the parties and states and enhance practical cooperation to foster a more vigorous momentum for the development of bilateral relations.

Diaz-Canel applauded the sound and time-honored bilateral ties, saying Cuba is willing to work with China to enhance high-level mutual trust and cooperation.

When meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister's special envoy, former Deputy Prime Minister Don McKinnon, Li said China is willing to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and deepen mutual trust and coordination in international and regional affairs to further the comprehensive strategic partnership.

McKinnon recognized the significance of China's commemoration activities, saying his country is ready to deepen cooperation with China.

When meeting with ICRC President Peter Maurer, Li said Chinese people will never forget the support and assistance that ICRC offered during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which is part of the World Anti-Fascist War.

Acknowledging the harsh humanitarian situation, Li said China stands ready to work with ICRC to contribute more to the international humanitarian cause.

Thanking China's great support, Maurer said ICRC hope to cooperate more with China to promote the international humanitarian aid. Endi
