Georgia reshuffles cabinet, replaces two ministers

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili on Tuesday announced reshuffle of the cabinet, changing foreign minister and economic minister.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who had held the post of economic minister since late 2012, has been appointed as foreign minister, replacing Tamar Beruchashvili, while retaining his position of deputy prime minister.

Dimitri Kumsishvili, deputy mayor of Tbilisi, has been appointed as economic minister to replace Kvirikashvili.

Gharibashvili said that the government is focusing on economic development, which further determines Georgia's foreign policy and internal economic agenda.

"Both new ministers have significant knowledge and experience in their fields. Therefore, I believe that they will strengthen the government's efforts in these two directions," the prime minister said.

This was the third cabinet reshuffle since Gharibashvili took office in 2013. Endi
