Taliban fight kills 8 fellow insurgents in N. Afghanistan

A Taliban fighter opened fire and killed eight of his fellow insurgents in Imam Sahib district of the northern Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital 250 km north of Kabul on Tuesday, a local official said.

"A Taliban insurgent sprayed bullets on his armed colleagues in a room in a far-flanged village of Imam Sahib district on Tuesday morning and after killing eight comrades took their weapons and left for unknown location," district governor Imamudin Qurishi told Xinhua.

This is the first time that a Taliban fighter killing his fellow militants in the northern region. Taliban militants who control several villages in Imam Sahib district and the neighboring Dasht-e-Archi and Chardara districts have yet to make comment.

The incident took place amid ongoing differences between supporters of Taliban new leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor and the family of former Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.

According to media reports clash between supporters and opponents of Mullah Mansoor which erupted in the southern Zabul province couple of day ago has left seven fighters dead.

Mullah Omar's family has reportedly warned Mullah Mansoor to resign from Taliban leadership or face the music. Endi
