UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon condemned Monday's series of terrorist attacks in Turkey including those on the security forces in Istanbul and the southeast provinces, as well as on the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul, according to a statement of the secretary-general's spokesperson.

"He is greatly concerned by the violence. The secretary-general expressed his deepest sympathies with the victims of today's acts, as well as with the government and people of Turkey," said the statement.

Ban hoped that the perpetrators of the attacks will be swiftly brought to justice, it added.

According to media reports, a police officer was killed in Istanbul during clashes following a car bombing. In southeastern Sirnak province, four police officers were killed by a roadside bomb while a soldier died when gunmen fired on a military helicopter. The U.S. consulate in Istanbul was attacked by two assailants. Enditem
