Sevilla boss Emery motivated by thought of European Supercup

Sevilla boss Unai Emery is hopeful his side can overcome a string of injuries and pull off a shock by defeating FC Barcelona in the final of the European Supercup which is being held in Tiblisi on Tuesday night.

The European Supercup is the first title of the season and pits the winners of the Europa League against the Champions League winners and Emery knows his side start as under-dogs against a Barca side which won the treble last season.

"We have to find ways of reducing the gap between the sides, and when we do, we have to use them to stop Barca. We must approach the game with the idea of overcoming the differences between the teams," he said in an interview with UEFA.com

Emery expressed his excitement at getting the new season rolling by lifting some silverware

"We have the chance to win a trophy in our first match. Barcelona are favorites but we will go there with the dream we can spring a surprise. If we beat them, it will boost our confidence and our profile, and give us much-needed impetus for the campaign ahead," he explained

Sevilla lost top scorer Carlos Bacca to AC Milan last season, while new signing Steven N'Zonzi is injured, along with Nico Pareja and Daniel Carrico, but Emery preferred not to dwell on the absences.

"The team is always being rebuilt with players following the same path as those that leave. We want to continue improving and growing despite the difficulties we face," he said, looking for something extra to give his side a chance.

"Good players, well-organized teams and good training methods, is something Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia all have; it's what we have in Spain. These are our strengths, our values, and we want to keep them and we want to keep improving," he concluded. Endi
